Dear Families, My name is Carolyn Short and it is an honor to begin my 8th year in Watseka and to be a part of this extraordinary school community. Since my start as Curriculum Director, I have met and spoken with administrators, faculty, community agencies, and parents. A theme I’ve heard repeated is that in Watseka, decisions are based upon the students’ best interest. The focus is to put systems and structures in place in order to support students and their families, as well as faculty and staff. I aim to provide our students with a rigorous, viable, guaranteed, and engaging K-12 curriculumbased on standards that meet the needs of all our students for them to be successful in life. I want to ensure that every child has the learning opportunities to be successful with the curriculum, and I will help and support changes to teaching and learning so that all students will be productive and responsible citizens. As the Curriculum Director, I will support teachers in continuous improvement of their knowledge and skills, and in delivering rigorous, standards- aligned curriculum equitably across the district. Newly implemented curriculum include: Eureka Math grades 1-8, Reading Horizons Phonics K-5, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Into Literature grades 6-8th grade. Into Literature is also being piloted in 9-12th grade. For more details, please see our curriculum link on our website or call Mrs. Carolyn Short 1.815.432.2112
